My cancer story was actually quite simple but, nonetheless, shocking. You see, I have been fundraising voluntarily since 1976 because I believe “we should take care of each other.”

I am a full time blues vocalist and my “shameless begging style to spread awareness” worked magic during performances. Oh boy. Since I have been telling people for centuries to “be informed and NOT in fear,” I was now in a position to walk my talk. And I did. I HAD to!

Okay, so I’ve been told that this title is a little…um…different. Well aren’t they all? Aren’t we all? And t hat is the reason for this title. You see friends, life can be a bit discouraging sometimes and each one of us responds to it differently based on culture, race, religious beliefs and so on but that shouldn’t stand in the way of you enjoying life and all it has to offer. To make it authentic, I openly and honestly tell the story of my life’s journey and how I have arrived at this place and time. Yes I included pain, suffering, hurt, failure (as I saw it) and many other things that I didn’t think I was going to bounce back from but through the deliberate choice to conquer those things daily, I found love, inner peace, trust and many other reasons to keep moving forward.

This is not a “how to” guide or a “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” mantra, but a way for you to take a real look into another person’s life so that you, too, may find your own way to enjoy each day of your journey and perhaps create one you didn’t know existed.
